The Biography of
B i s h o p W.
My name is Bishop. I was born in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands and moved to St. Petersburg, Florida with my father, at the age of nine; I reside in Tampa, Florida today. My music is alternative Rhythm & Blues; it has evolved from the type of music that I have grown up listening to and the kind of music I like to hear - there are no limits or boundaries to it. I was once told that “while listening to my music,” one “forgets about” his “own tragedies” as he “realizes that they are a part of life that everyone goes through.”
Performing background vocals with my father’s band sparked the beginning of my love of music and led me into writing and performing “dancehall music.” I was privileged to give a live radio interview, associated with a song that I had written to promote “stopping the violence” as a result of a local tragedy in the Virgin Islands at that time. I performed in a fundraiser for a “hurricane relief” effort. From there, I went on to write and perform songs for several local acts. Also, I was selected to create and sing a jingle for the St. Petersburg baseball team – The Devil Rays.
I was privileged to perform for the monthly, televised "Hot Wet Miami Beach Show," hosted by Axle of Exus.
Additionally, two of my songs made #1 on "The Top 40" list, on New Artist Radio (NAR), an internet radio station, based out of Salt Lake City, Utah, while simultaneously being played in various cities in the United States and relayed to Europe, Canada and Australia. As a result of my songs' #1 status, I was invited by NAR to perform live at their annual awards show, where I walked away with the "New Artist R&B Artist of the Year" award.
I also performed at The PARC fundraiser to encourage the youths to say no to drugs and to promote self awareness and believing in themselves.
Mid-year, 2005, I entered a contest with the Recording Academy, Florida Chapter and was named a semi-finalist in the Florida GRAMMY Showcase as I placed in the top 35 of more than 230 entrants. I've been making guest appearances with various bands locally.
Currently, I am performing at Jake's Java Joint on Friday nights. I just completed a live recording and interview with The Papa Sean Show on the local television station - TBCN.
And I have just released my full length album titled: I'm just me. Three of the tracks: Mama, My Best Friend and I'm Just me are receiving air time on radio station 88.5. And the internet station - The Horizon Show, gives air time to I'm Just Me.
